Choosing the right repair shop is essential when your vehicle fails an emissions test.
Start with a highly rated REI repair facility
Look for a repair shop with a strong Repair Effectiveness Index (REI) rating. These shops have a proven record of successfully fixing emissions-related problems.
If your vehicle still fails after repairs
ETCs provide expert diagnostic evaluations to help identify the cause of the problem.
ETCs do not perform repairs, but the detailed diagnostic report can be taken to a repair shop for further service.
Remember: The ETC diagnostic evaluation is free of charge and available by appointment only.
5-Star Repair Facilities
The Air Care Colorado Emissions Repair Guide is published annually and available at all Air Care Colorado testing locations. The printed “Fail & Repair Guide” lists only certified 5-Star repair shops for vehicles that fail an emissions test. These shops are rated based on their emissions repair data and consistently provide the most effective repairs.
Active Participating Facilities
These repair shops throughout the Denver metropolitan and North Front Range areas actively submit emissions repair data. Their effectiveness is measured by their Repair Effectiveness Index (REI) scores, helping motorists find facilities that reliably fix emissions failures.
General Repair Facilities
This list includes other known repair shops in the Denver metropolis and the North Front Range areas. These facilities may perform general vehicle repairs, but they do not submit emissions repair data and are not rated for emissions repair effectiveness.
The State of Colorado operates six Emissions Technical Centers to help diagnose vehicles that fail emissions tests more than once.
Free Service: There is no cost for the evaluation.
Eligibility: Available only if your vehicle has:
Failed its initial inspection,
Had repair attempts, and
Failed one or more re-inspections.
