Don’t wait until the month your emissions is due. In order to allow sufficient time to analyze and process the RapidScreen data, any readings recorded within the final two months before your vehicle’s registration renewal is due will be too late to qualify.

Accelerate moderately as you pass the testing van. Moderate acceleration is required to produce the most representative sample of your vehicle’s exhaust emissions. Therefore, deceleration or heavy acceleration may result in an invalid reading.

Keep your vehicle properly and regularly maintained. We cannot stress this enough. Proper vehicle maintenance is good for your vehicle and for our environment. Vehicles that are poorly maintained burn more gas, emit more pollution and wear out faster.

Make sure your rear license plate is clean and readable. In order to recognize your vehicle, RapidScreen’s testing equipment must be able to read your license plate. Dirty or damaged plates, trailer hitches, bike racks and other obstructions can make your plate unreadable to our camera—resulting in an invalid reading.

Drive by the testing vans on several occasions. Since there are several variables that may contribute to an invalid reading, and because your vehicle must record two clean readings to pass RapidScreen, it’s a good idea to drive by the testing vans several times in the months prior to your registration renewal.

Be sure your vehicle is properly warmed to operating temperature before you’re tested. “Cold” vehicles emit higher levels of pollution than those at operating temperature. In general, 10-15 minutes of drive time will ensure proper warm-up.

Emission Testing Station Locations

The program area for the enhanced emissions testing program includes the counties of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Denver, Douglas, Broomfield and Jefferson, with the exception of the rural portions of Adams and Arapahoe counties east of Kiowa Creek. Beginning in 2010 parts of Larimer and Weld counties were added to the enhanced program area.

The 18 Envirotest-operated emissions testing centers perform both the enhanced I/M 240 test for 1982 and newer vehicles, and the two-speed idle test for 1981 and older vehicles. 1981 and older vehicles may also be tested at an independent test center. FROM BOULDER: Go north on Foothills Pkwy to the Diagonal Hwy (119). Take the Diagonal northeast to 87th Street. Turn left (north) on 87th. It becomes Airport Rd after crossing Nelson Rd. Station is at the northwest corner of Airport Rd and Rogers Rd.

FROM Interstate 25: From I-25 northbound, take Exit 240 (Hwy 119). Go west on 119, across the railroad tracks, to Nelson Rd. Turn right on Nelson to Airport Blvd. Turn right on Airport to Rogers Rd (2nd left) and turn left on Rogers. The station is at the northwest corner of Airport and Rogers Rd.

FROM southbound Interstate 25: Take Exit 235 toward Dacono. Turn right onto the I-25 Frontage Rd/Weld Co Rd 9. Turn left onto Joe Cllier Ave. Turn right onto Silver Peak Ave. The station is on the east side of the Silver Peak Ave.

FROM northbound Interstate 25: Take exit 232 toward Eerie/Dacono. Turn right onto Summit Blvd./Co Rd 8. Take fist left onto the I-25 Frontage Rd./Weld Co Rd 9. Turn right onto Co Rd 12. Turn left onto Silver Peak Ave. The station is on the east side of Silver Peak Ave, east of Vans Equipment Company.
